MacBooks are popular computers and their use as day-to-day laptops has increased; sales are up in Apple stores and the MacBook Pro evolves every year. These machines, although high performers as laptops go, are still prone to hardware failure. The most common circumstances are simple breakage, where a MacBook repair shop can swap out damaged parts and have the machine up and running again in no time. Apple stores and Apple retailers on the other hand, may take longer. Many Apple Stores will not take on repairs at all, but pass them on to a local Apple repair center. MacBook Pro screen repairs are a common request at the average Apple Store. As with all laptop screens, they are delicate and easy to damage if not cared for properly. Another common item that has to be replaced is the keyboard, due to liquid spills or other abuse. An Authorized MacBook repair shop can make repairs for all of these types of damage and have your laptop back in fully working order with guaranteed workmanship. The Apple MacBook Pro is not known for easy “do-it-yourself” servicing. Like many other modern laptop designs, one wrong move can cause enough damage to make your wallet sting. Motherboard replacements for laptops are not cheap! MacBook repair costs can be avoided/reduced by: Having any necessary repairs made by an authorized MacBook or MacBook Pro repair service provider. Their work is guaranteed and you know it will be done properly. Pay only once for a repair! • Get your MacBook repair performed locally – When the Apple Store sends your machine away, it costs you money and you have no personal contact with the MacBook Repair/Service provider. Local repairs can be more easily tracked. You can also talk to an engineer about your MacBook and exactly what you need, while getting advice at the same time. And, you can often receive a loaner until your MacBook is ready! • Keep your MacBook cool – overheating is a common way to damage batteries and reduce their life. Don’t block the air vent where the fan blows hot air out between the hinges. • Make sure cables are tidy before moving your MacBook – picking up the machine with cables attached can put a great deal of strain on the cable ends/sockets and cause expensive damage. • Don’t put pens or other objects on the surface of the laptop – closing the lid on objects can easily cause broken hinges, keyboards and screens. If you are having problems with your MacBook, take it to a local Apple Authorized repair center instead of the Apple Store. CompuTech Support Services is an Authorized repair center conveniently located near West Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Santa Monica, California. We have fully accredited engineers and great deals on MacBook Pro repairs. Why not take your computer to the place where the Apple stores send their most difficult MacBook Repairs? Wed, 25 Jul 2012 22:34:00 -0700 Apple Dealer or Authorized Apple Repair Center? http://apple-repair.posterous.com/apple-dealer-or-authorized-apple-repair-cente http://apple-repair.posterous.com/apple-dealer-or-authorized-apple-repair-cente

It's difficult to know where you should take your Macintosh when you are in need of Mac service or Mac repair.  If you take your Mac to the dealer, you will likely pay a great deal more for your repairs for different reasons, mostly because their technical abilities inside the store are limited to the basics.  What this means is that they will likely have to ship your Mac out to an outside contractor. This will cause the cost of your repairs to be quite high not to mention timely.

If you choose to use an authorized Apple repair center, not only will the repairs be done onsite, the cost will be much less and the Mac repair will take much less time.  It is important, however, to make sure you are using an authorized Apple repair center so your warranty stays intact.  A great authorized Apple repair center in the Los Angeles area is Computech.  Computech provides fast, affordable, quality Mac repair and Mac service. Sun, 03 Jun 2012 08:03:00 -0700 Macbook Pro - Heat May Result in a Trip to Your Apple Retailer http://apple-repair.posterous.com/macbook-pro-heat-may-result-in-a-trip-to-your http://apple-repair.posterous.com/macbook-pro-heat-may-result-in-a-trip-to-your

One of the most common issues requiring a MacBook repair service is the problem of overheating. Like most compact or mobile devices, MacBook Pro heat is produced in several ways. When the battery is low, it requires a lot of power while charging, especially if the machine is in use. Consequently, the related components, i.e. the charger and the battery, heat up noticeably. This is not usually a problem, but where the casing either has the vent obstructed, or is placed on a surface that allows heat to build up, overheating may occur. Placing the laptop on top of furnishings or clothing insulates the casing and prevents adequate cooling/ventilation. The MacBook and MacBook Pro heat is controlled by the fan which will speed up as the machine gets hotter, eventually resulting in a loud fan noise.

Apple Macs are powerful machines with very slim profiles. This means that heat management is more difficult than with many other laptop designs. The aluminum casing of the MacBook Pro helps somewhat to get rid of excess heat more quickly than the common plastic casings found on lesser machines. If you hear loud fan noise or detect excessive heat from the casing and do not want a potentially expensive trip to your local Apple retailer or Mac repair shop you can take the following precautions;

·         Make sure the laptop is placed on a surface that does not allow heat buildup. This is especially important in relation to sunlight which can accelerate Macbook Pro heat buildup; if left in vehicles in direct sunlight, this can be made worse by the greenhouse effect of the glass. To prevent theft, laptops should be secured out of sight anyway.

·         Ensure the area around the hinges at the back of the machine is clear to allow hot air to be expelled from the casing.

·         Stop using the machine while it charges – using the machine adds heat to the interior due to CPU and memory chip load, which adds heat energy to the components inside the casing.

·         Use a laptop cooler to reduce MacBook Pro heat buildup. These handy devices offer extra cooling to the base of the casing. Although an extra item to carry about, a cooler can allow the use of the laptop on soft furnishings or other locations where heat buildup is an issue. Regardless, obstruction of the vent between the lid hinges will not be resolved by the use of a cooler or a visit to a Apple Authorized Repair Center.

·         Download and install some fan control software such as ‘SMCFanControl’, a free application that keeps tabs on the internal operating temperature.  This software can speed the fan up before MacBook Pro heat buildup becomes an issue.

Another reason to be aware of MacBook Pro heat build-up is that battery life can be severely reduced by constant heating and cooling cycles. Although excess heat can cause laptop batteries to have abrupt failure, MacBooks have resilient batteries.  The most likely symptom to emerge is the inability to hold a charge, with the problem worsening over time. If your battery has been getting too hot and your charge time is reducing, you should visit your Apple Authorized Repair Center (rather than an Apple retailer) to have it checked out and replaced before it fails completely. MacBook repair costs are very reasonable at an Apple Authorized Repair Center.  If you keep your MacBook serviced, it will offer a longer and more productive life.

Apple retailers are not usually MacBook repair centers.

If you have problems with your MacBook Pro heating up, you can return it to an Apple retailer.  But you may as well take the machine in directly for an Apple repair or service by an Apple Authorized Repair Center. Many Apple retailers do not do anything other than superficial repairs such as O/S upgrades. So if you need your MacBook repaired, it is quicker to take the machine directly to an Apple Authorized Repair Center where MacBook repair costs are lower as well.

Mon, 30 Apr 2012 21:46:00 -0700 Quick Fixes for Three Most Common MacBook Repair Issues http://apple-repair.posterous.com/quick-fixes-for-three-most-common-macbook-rep http://apple-repair.posterous.com/quick-fixes-for-three-most-common-macbook-rep

Even people who consider themselves the least tech-savvy computer users are likely to say that Apple computers are the most user-friendly and trouble-free machines. All of Apple’s devices receive rave reviews from the industry, which has given them more satisfied customers than any other brand of computer. But even their bestselling laptop - the MacBook - is not immune to certain issues. While it excels in so many important ways, some of these problems might sound familiar to Apple MacBook owners. As one of the few award-winning Apple Authorized Service Providers in the Los Angeles area, and an expert on MacBook repair, we see three common areas where Mac owners tend to have problems. They are with the power adapter, the batteries, and with their laptop unexpectedly “falling asleep”. MacBook Repair Tips for Power Adapters Let’s start with the power adapters. Like any other computer, a defective power adapter can keep the computer from fully charging. Outside of potential power problems related to your own power source or faulty outlets, dirty connectors on your computer’s power adapter are often the problem. It is also possible that the molding on the adapter itself is deteriorating. Try cleaning the power connectors first, but if the problem persists take your MacBook for services at an authorized Apple dealer or MacBook repair service provider. MacBook owners are often eligible for a free replacement adapter. MacBook Repair Tips for Batteries Along the same lines as the power adapter, if your MacBook has a defective battery, it will not hold a charge as long as it should. Checking the battery on a Mac computer is simple. On the top left hand side of your computer screen you will find “About this Mac”. Choosing “More Info” here will let you see the details of your MacBook’s battery life, including its full-charge capacity, cycle count, and overall condition. You may also see a “Check Battery” warning here. Under certain conditions, and when your MacBook is still under warranty, you may be eligible for a free replacement battery. If your battery is okay, but you just want to make it last longer, here is another tip you might hear about from a MacBook repair specialist. • Calibrate your battery monthly using Apple’s online instructions for MacBooks or their instructions for older Mac laptops. MacBook Repair Tips for Sleep Issues Is your MacBook reverting to “sleep mode” when you’re in the middle of a project? Some MacBook users report a problem where their computers unexpectedly lapse into sleep mode, or they will not come out of sleep mode when the start button is pressed. The remedy for this is often closing the lid and reopening, then pressing the power button again. But sometimes it requires the user to hold down the power button long enough to force a restart. For a more complicated MacBook repair, a trip to your Mac repair shop may be necessary to fix the underlying cause of the problem. However, there is one way you may be able to fix it at home – by resetting the computer’s System Management Controller (SMC). Follow these instructions from Apple to reset the SMC. If you are new to the world of MacBook computers, you may think it needs to go back to the Apple store for service. Not true! The best place to get your computer repaired is at an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). CompuTech offers quick and convenient MacBook Repair Services from the most experienced Certified Macintosh Support Technicians in the Los Angeles area. On the rare occasion that you need a MacBook repair, you can rely on CompuTech to solve a wide range of issues related to hardware and software. CompuTech has received the Apple Service Excellence Award, which recognizes our Mac repair services as being among the top 2% of all Apple Authorized Service Providers in North America. Sat, 24 Mar 2012 20:41:00 -0700 MacBook Startup Problems? Advice from a Los Angeles Mac Repair Expert http://apple-repair.posterous.com/macbook-startup-problems-advice-from-a-los-an http://apple-repair.posterous.com/macbook-startup-problems-advice-from-a-los-an

Are you experiencing startup problems with your Mac? Macintosh computers are very reliable, but even the best made machines still have issues now and then, or as some Mac repair technicians see it – they get “cranky” . Your startup problems could be related to the hard drive, corruption within the OS user account, a bad battery or power supply, or even the logic board. Clues to the problem may be found by determining when the system fails and then isolating that area to find the solution. Start by unplugging any external disk drives, printers, or other external peripherals. Before you take your computer to an Apple dealer or a Los Angeles Mac repair shop, answering a few simple questions may help narrow down the type of Mac repair you may be dealing with. First of all, does your system turn on? If not, then you are likely dealing with a blown fuse, dead battery, bad logic board or a problem with your AC adaptor. A certified MacBook repair specialist can help you narrow down the exact cause of the problem and do the repair. Did you hear a popping sound? If so, then you may be dealing with a failed capacitor. Fortunately, a new power supply or AC adaptor will not be difficult or expensive for a Mac repair shop to replace. However, if you suspect your MacBook repair involves a dead or defective battery and your laptop has a removable battery, try taking it out before troubleshooting. A defective battery may prevent your laptop from booting, or if it fails to shut down after a crash, it could prevent a successful reboot. Depending on the nature of the problem, an Apple dealer may need to send your MacBook repair to an outside repair shop anyway, so it will probably be easier to start out with a repair shop that you trust, and deal directly with the technicians who will be fixing your computer. Mac repair shops will often recommend the use of Time Machine, a program that actually creates a complete backup of your system. Using Time Machine, in the event of a hard drive failure or corruption, Mac users can revert back to the last time their system was working properly. Is your MacBook slowing down with age? Perhaps the problem you’re dealing with is a slowing start time. Your Apple dealer or Mac repair shop may not have a specific solution for this, but there are some ways you can speed it up on your own. Remember, your MacBook or iMac must run through a whole lot of code before you see the startup page. The longer you use your computer, the more legacy programs it will need to sort through every time you turn it on. Your Apple dealer will often give you tips about how to fix this, but it is a whole lot simpler to delete unused programs, especially those programs that automatically boot up whenever you turn on your computer. Using an “uninstaller” program, such as AppDelete or AppZapper will clear out unwanted apps, including all the associated library files and definitions. How do you know which programs are loading up every time your Mac boots up? Simply go to Macintosh HD > Library > Startup Items and they will all be listed. You may want to delete the programs directly from this list, but be careful not to remove anything you may really need. Remember, deleting anything from this folder will affect all user accounts, not just your own. To see which programs are booting for a specific user, go to: apple Menu>System Preferences>Accounts, and then click on the “Login Items” tab for the desired account. Another suggestion that Mac repair shops often make is to offload larger media files and iTunes libraries to a secondary drive. These files take up much of your computer’s available hard drive storage space, and they can affect the overall performance of your Mac computer when the hard drive is near max capacity. Still having problems with starting up your Mac computer? There is no need to take your MacBook to an Apple dealer. You'll get better Mac repairs from an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) like the Los Angeles Mac repair shop CompuTech Support Services. CompuTech is in the heart of Los Angeles, near West Los Angeles, Hollywood and Santa Monica, California. Tue, 21 Feb 2012 21:20:00 -0800 Learn How to Easily Set-Up iTunes/iPhone Sync on your MacBook Before Calling Your Apple store http://apple-repair.posterous.com/learn-how-to-easily-set-up-itunesiphone-sync http://apple-repair.posterous.com/learn-how-to-easily-set-up-itunesiphone-sync

If you have had trouble with setting up iTunes on your new MacBook via your iPhone, then you are not alone. While often misdiagnosed by the “geniuses” at the Apple store, this is actually a common problem for new Mac users. However, when our customers try to find advice for this issue on their own, they often discover that they need to wade through a lot of bad advice first. A better way to resolve this is to consult the Mac repair experts at CompuTech Support Services. Here is the problem one of our customers had recently. Whenever he tried to sync his iPhone with the iTunes program on his new MacBook, he was prompted to “transfer purchases from iPhone”. The only problem was, his MacBook wouldn’t recognize the iPhone. A friend advised him to make the transfer directly from his old PC, or look at the online forums and troubleshoot the problem on his own, without consulting his local Apple store. Like many of our customers, he found information online about a downloadable iPhone drive, but he wasn’t sure he liked the idea of paying Apple for the privilege of syncing one of their products with another and he was afraid it might be a scam. At CompuTech, our Mac experts have heard about many iPhone/Mac users who tried this method and it didn’t solve the problem. Fortunately, the MacBook repair experts at CompuTech stay current on the forums and they were able to find a simple and effective solution for syncing iTunes on a new Mac. It turned out that this customer didn’t need to purchase a new drive, nor did he need to make the trek to the Apple store. If your iPhone isn’t recognized by your MacBook, the best solution is to install software updates on your computer. The problem will not be resolved by reinstalling iTunes. Even if it syncs up once, you may have this problem again and again until you update your software, and who wants to reload iTunes every time you sync? Avoid paying more money by taking your computer back to the Apple store with this issue. Try the software updates first. What you are looking for is the “iphone compatibility sdk” update. A customer of ours took his new MacBook back to the Apple store last year after having problems with this exact issue, and the guy at the Genius Bar told him it was a bad logic board. After getting a replacement laptop, he experienced the same issue the following week. If you just brought your new MacBook home from the Apple store, or you bought the new iPhone4, then you may not have this issue at all. But if you do, follow this simple advice: run a software update. Save yourself the time and frustration of trying to resolve issues like these on your own. If you are looking for a reliable place to get your iMac, MacBook, or iPad serviced in the West LA area, avoid the Apple store and take your Apple Macintosh products to CompuTech in Los Angeles, CA. CompuTech is among the top 2 percent of Apple Authorized Service Providers in North America, and your local Los Angeles Mac repair shop. Because our focus is on Mac repairs and Mac support, not to sell you a new computer, we will not try to resolve your repair issues by selling you a new computer. Call on their expert staff of Mac support technicians and you will soon see why CompuTech earned Apple’s Service Excellence Award. Mon, 23 Jan 2012 21:24:00 -0800 Apple Store, Mac Reseller or AASP? Which One is best for Your MacBook Repair? http://apple-repair.posterous.com/apple-store-mac-reseller-or-aasp-which-one-is http://apple-repair.posterous.com/apple-store-mac-reseller-or-aasp-which-one-is

If there is one thing that most Mac owners don’t think about much, it’s finding a Mac repair shop. In fact, many Apple fans think the only Mac-related business they need to know about is that “shrine of 21st century technology” – the Apple Store. Fortunately, there’s a good chance you could own a Mac for years and never need to take it back to the Mac reseller or look up an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). Macintosh is known for making the most reliable computers and electronic devices to be found anywhere. But here is some valuable advice just in case you need a Mac repair. Finding an Apple service provider that you can trust may seem difficult, but sometimes it is just a matter of knowing what you’re trying to avoid. Don't get your Mac fixed at an Apple Retail location. Try to find an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) in your area instead. If you live in West LA, then CompuTech Support Services is a great example of this. When you take your MacBook repair to an Apple Store or a Mac reseller, they have a vested interest in selling you a new computer. You want a Mac repair technician who will give you all your options; someone whose main motivation is not to sell you a new Apple Computer, but to save you money while providing you with the best solution possible. Whether it’s fixing your existing Mac, or getting you set up with a new one, CompuTech will do what’s best for you. Along the same lines, the Apple Store or a Mac reseller may try to sell you solutions that you don’t really need. Avoid a long wait by going directly to the Apple repair shop. If you had planned on taking your MacBook repair to the Apple Store, you may be in for a long wait. Not only will you wait in line to speak with a techie at the Genius Bar, you will also wait longer to get your computer back. Many of the repairs brought into the Apple Store are ultimately sent out to Apple repair shops anyway, so why not start by visiting the repair shop directly? Los Angeles-based CompuTech is not just your standard AASP; they are ranked in the top 2 percent of all Apple Authorized Service Providers in North America. Your local AASP offers more upgrade options. Looking for a Mac repair on an older laptop or desktop model? Your local Apple Store or Mac reseller may not be equipped to work on it. If you want to upgrade an older Mac computer by adding memory, a new power supply or CD/DVD drives, then your Apple Store will send you directly to an independent Mac repair shop. Even on current models, their upgrade options are limited. Whether you need an upgrade performed at your place of business, or you are dealing with minor damage to a personal MacBook, skip the Apple Store and call on CompuTech. CompuTech is conveniently located in West Los Angeles. You can rely on the expertise of their certified Mac support technicians. For the best Apple service in Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Hollywood, contact their West LA location at (310) 237-6065 Contact us today at (310) 237-6065 or learn more about our Mac services by visiting http://www.computechsos.com/services/mac-repairs-services/.>

Wed, 30 Nov 2011 23:10:00 -0800 What is the Best Way to Sync Data between Multiple Macintosh Computers and Devices? http://apple-repair.posterous.com/what-is-the-best-way-to-sync-data-between-mul http://apple-repair.posterous.com/what-is-the-best-way-to-sync-data-between-mul

Ever since Google started testing Google Sync two years ago, new Mac users left the Mac store wondering, “Which is the better option… to spend the $99 per year on Apple’s MobileMe application, or skip the expense and use Google Sync for free?” Surprisingly, even with the recent rise of Google smart phones, Google Calendar and Google Docs, many Mac support experts still recommend MobileMe. In case you’re unfamiliar or you haven’t already been sold on MobileMe at the Mac store, MobileMe is an application that automatically syncs your iPhone, MacBook or Mac desktop, iPod and iPad. It is particularly helpful with email, contacts and calendar info, but also includes 20 GB or online storage space. Since the application belongs to Apple, it's no surprise to find that your Mac store, Apple support website and many Mac support professionals recommend it - but is it really worth $99 per year? Now that Google Sync is able to accomplish the same thing on Droid phones, PCs, and any other laptop – as well as Macintosh computers and devices – MobileMe may be losing ground among longtime subscribers. On the other hand, Apple stands to gain revenue from SmartPhone buyers who like the flexibility of using their cherished Gmail and Google applications on a new iPhone. Now, thanks to Google Sync, iPhone users who want to access their Gmail and Google Calendar no longer need to go through iTunes or a third-party software application; they can sync up their Google contacts or calendar entries quickly and easily. So why do so many of the support specialists at the Mac store still insist on MobileMe over Google Sync? Much of it has to do with habit, but there is still the benefit that comes from MobileMe’s integration with all the other products for sale at the Mac store. Sure, you can still use Google to sync data between most devices, but for someone who is already accustomed to MobileMe, Google Sync may seem a bit cumbersome. And let’s face it; we all know how much Mac users enjoy the purity of using “all things Apple”. Looking for the best Mac support service in West LA, Los Angeles, Santa Monica or Hollywood? Avoid the lines at the Mac store. CompuTech Support Services is among the top 2 percent of Apple Authorized Service Providers in North America, and we are conveniently located in West Los Angeles.
